Starter clues on the
cover sheet encourage participants to interact. On the scene are
"characters" strolling about to set the mood as well as a few strategically
placed undetectable actors that move the plot along. The killer
can be any number of people and often it is actually one of the
guests, unbeknownst to them! This is extremely effective in groups
that are already well-acquainted.
A Detective or Sheriff
is on hand to organize the investigation and during dinner the pace
is usually broken with some lighthearted and comical entertainment
providing a mini show within the mystery.
Throughout the evening
deaths occur. Deaths are usually done in a loud, comical manner.
As an added incentive, at the end of the mystery the actor that
gives the best death gets the "Oscar."
At the conclusion of
the mystery the clues are laid out and guests have the opportunity
to solve the case. The final scene is played out as the detective
or sheriff tie all the clues together, explaining what they mean
and why they are important. The culprit or culprits are arrested,
handcuffed, and escorted out. The actors are introduced and the
host reads highlights from the turned in solve sheets. The guest
who most correctly solves the mystery receives a prize.
